The Upper St. Clair Student Council and school administration have worked hard over the past few months to organize this year’s USC UThon. Now, you might be wondering—what exactly is UThon? Let me explain the purpose of this meaningful event. Schools across Pennsylvania, including many in Allegheny County, host their own UThon or Mini-THON events to raise money for various charitable foundations, often focused on childhood cancer and other important causes.
A great deal of preparation went into making UThon a fun, meaningful, and safe experience for everyone involved. Flyers were posted around the school to encourage participation, and Student Council (STUCO) members rallied their friends to join the effort. To reach an even broader audience, students and STUCO staff created a TikTok page dedicated to promoting the event.
The entry fee for the event was $20, with all proceeds going toward the final donation total. In addition to the student fees, parents, faculty, and other community members also contributed generously, helping make the event a true success.
So, what happens during UThon? Students arrived at school at 8:00 PM and stayed until 2:00 AM for a night full of excitement and entertainment. In the gym, a DJ kept the energy high as students danced and enjoyed time with friends. Meanwhile, participants rotated through a variety of interactive games and team challenges that required creativity, collaboration, and quick thinking.
We heard from several students about their experience:
Freshman Madline Dow shared, “I had so much fun at UThon. As a freshman, I wasn’t sure what to expect when it came to high school events, but I’m so happy I was part of something meaningful—and I got to enjoy it with my friends and classmates.” Madline reflected on the nervousness of starting high school and how participating in events like UThon helped her feel more connected.
From a slightly different perspective, Reese E. said, “I’m so happy I got involved in something so great, with such a great group of people, and for a great cause. It was a little daunting at first because I didn’t know many people going, but by the end of the night I had made so many new friends and connections.” Reese’s experience highlights the social and community-building impact of events like this.
Even students who couldn’t attend still found ways to contribute. Olivia L. said, “I wasn’t able to attend UThon because I had other commitments, but I made sure to support the cause by donating time and money. Everyone I talked to said it was a blast!”
In conclusion, the effort and dedication that Upper St. Clair High School’s STUCO staff and students poured into this unforgettable event truly paid off. UThon continues to be a powerful tradition that brings students together for fun, friendship, and an incredible cause—one that will hopefully carry on for many years to come.
