Yes football fans, its that time of year again: the Superbowl. All the energy, time, money, and emotional deposits of the past few months, the careful planning of your fantasy team, the friendships broken and bridges burned over fights about who’s going to win: everything comes to a head this magical (or terrible) day.
It is hard to believe, but even that it is all almost over. But unfortunately, on top of the memories of the Steelers’ failure and the fact that the Ravens are in the Superbowl, I’m here to say that it’s going to get worse.
For starters, lets look at number one:
THE RAVENS ARE IN THE SUPERBOWL!
And the Steelers aren’t. Insert every and any expressions of anger that can be conveyed through text here because they’re probably being said right now. This calamity on the AFC side was really unavoidable, though, considering they played the Patriots. Who would’ve thought, Tom Brady and the girls came back to take another swing at things again this year? (Wait, how many Superbowls have they won since they got caught cheating?) The best case scenario for the AFC Championship game was an alien ship coming down and abducting both teams and all their fans for experimentation. However, that didn’t happen. Which left the Ravens to plow their way on down to New Orleans.
Then there is the NFC side; the 49ers would seem like a nice team to win. After all, who doesn’t like to see a quarterback scramble for 181 yards in a playoff game? But then again, their head coach Jim Harbaugh is the brother of Ravens’ coach John Harbaugh. Maybe it’s stretching the whole “guilt by association” thing to not want the 49ers to win because of the coach’s family, but we can’t forget about that handshake fiasco between Jim Harbaugh and Jim Schwartz either. And, whoops, I forgot about the 49ers Superbowl rings: if they win, they’d be tied with the Steelers for 6 wins. That can’t be good. I would’ve rather seen the Falcons, but in typical Atlanta style, they choked again.
Then again, it is only a game. At least Ray Lewis is retiring, so it cannot be that bad. My prediction, though? The Ravens win. I think the inexperienced 49ers are going to choke. But I could be wrong. As John Madden once said, “Usually the team that scores the most points wins the game.” Anything could happen. I, for one, am looking forward to seeing what the outcome is, no matter which team ends up winning.
