Homecoming 2014 was quite a memorable weekend. Students exemplified school spirit and “Panther Pride” all throughout the week, and it was accurately showcased during the Pep-Rally on September 26. Although the game did not go as anticipated, the Homecoming dance itself was an enjoyable experience for anyone who attended.
During the pep-rally held at the end of the school day on Friday, September 26, the Homecoming Court was announced and presented in front of the student body. The USC cheerleaders performed and did an exceptional job of pumping up the crowd for the big game that night. The students demonstrated great school pride and spirit.
USC’s football team played against Woodland Hills at their Homecoming game. The game kicked off with a wonderful performance from the USC Marching Band, getting the crowd ready for the game. The cheerleaders also energized the crowd before the game with their performance on the sidelines.
Unfortunately, the football team did not play to their full potential and faced great struggles throughout the night. However, this did not affect the Panther Pride. The audience continued to cheer on the team with great enthusiasm. During half time, the homecoming court once again took the limelight and homecoming king and queen, Brooks Wilding and Morgan Hogenmiller, were finally announced.
The homecoming dance took place September 27 in the high school gymnasium. The theme chosen for the night was “Alice in Wonderland.” According to several students, the decorations created by their peers truly enhanced the vibe of the night.
“The decorations were very made very well. I think they did a really good job with them,” Ben Nadler, a junior, stated.
The theatre lobby was decorated with a conspicuous checkered floor, a tree and myriad other “Alice in Wonderland” themed decorations. Although the decorations themselves were beautiful, some students felt as if it wasn’t prominent enough on the dance floor.
Junior Scott Russell stated, “I don’t know. I think there could’ve been more decorations in the gym, but overall, they were pretty good.”
Besides the decorations, numerous students felt the music needed some improvement as well.
Junior Riley Urbano said, “The music was weak,” and when Michelle Lao was asked whether she liked the music played or not, she answered, “No actually, I did not.”
Lexi Venturini and Ben Nadler would have to agree with the others about the music played. The songs played on the dance floor were not familiar to them. Lexi felt that the music needed to have better lyrics along with the beat.
Even though there were several improvements, which could have been made, majority of the student body agreed they had a wonderful time with friends that night. Homecoming was an overall success this year. Regardless of the music, decorations, and result of the game, it was an enjoyable experience for many. It was an opportunity for everyone to take a break from the daily stresses of school and for one night just take a break from it all to have fun with friends.
