We all saw Miley Cyrus make a crazy comeback with Bangerz and Justin Timberlake rock worlds with The 20/20 Experience, but a lot of new artists came out of 2013 that may be even more exciting. Here are a few you should add to your 2014 iTunes playlist.
Lorde
Everyone knows her song “Royals” and the infamous mockery she made of glamour-obsessed artists living in Hollywood. But her message is pretty powerful: don’t get caught up in what people want to believe life is like; just enjoy it while you can. She’s clearly comfortable in her own skin and definitely will have more to say in the New Year.
CHVRCHES
“The Mother We Share” was an instant hit and this band has been hitting alternative radio stations everywhere. Their electronic mix with alternative is thrilling and has a unique new flavor. They have more music coming out soon that should be just as invigorating.
Passenger
Their hit “Let Her Go” struck every heart of America with its calm and sentimental words. Since 2007 this British band has been making music and hopefully will be coming out with more soon. Until then, their older music, like the album Wide Eyes Blind Love, is worthy of a throwback.
Bo Burnham
This clever comedian has been around for a while since his YouTube videos went viral, but his new album is a lot more than profane jokes. He always has something to say, mocking the shallow tendencies of media and today’s pop stars. And he even has a romantic side! His new album What is witty, poignant, and hilarious– definitely worth a listen.
Lilly Allen
This British pop singer has been coming out with some funny-but-meaningful pieces too. Her older albums like Alright, Still and her new song “Hard Out Here” is a great jam for anybody, especially girls in our generation. Her outspoken, feisty attitude is refreshing and unique. We can’t wait to see what else she has to say in the New Year.
